Jeremy
Wyatt - August 16, 2009
Midnight Guthrie:
Real quick - can you give fans a quick overview of your early career?
I know you've been wrestling since the early part of the decade,
but there's very little information available prior to 2006. Who
were you trained by and where did you wrestle during the early years
of your career?
Jeremy Wyatt: Real quick?
You in a hurry to be somewhere? You're the one bothering me for
an interview, not the other way around.
I started training in September of 2001 with the Estes family in
St. Joe, Missouri. They ran MEW and at the time NWA Kansas. I pretty
much only wrestled for them the first four years, not because that’s
all I wanted to do but because their reputations were bad. I was
basically blackballed from being given a chance to expand my horizons.
People wonder why I have a chip on my shoulder and am pissed off
all the time, well there's your reason why. Finally a couple of
promotions decided to give me a chance. I proved that I am one of
the best in this area and have been proving it ever since
Midnight: Who were your influences in wrestling
- before you trained to be a wrestler, in your early years in wrestling
and your current influences?
Wyatt: What is this, a "Let’s
get in the mind of Jeremy Wyatt?"
Anyways, as a kid I was a big fan of Sting, he oozed charisma and
no matter the odds he always put up a fight. I also really enjoyed
Ravishing Rick Rude, Great Muta, Jushin Thunder Liger and Brian
Pillman for different reasons. About the time I started to train
is when I came across and started to really follow the indies. I
became an instant fan of Christopher Daniels and A.J. Styles. I
still enjoy watching those guys to this day. Now I like to study
matches of guys like Randy Orton and Edge. They're very methodical
in their matches.
Midnight: Favorite matches and opponents in 3XW?
Wyatt: I have three favorite
matches in 3XW. The first one is vs. Mike Sydal. Not because it’s
a great match but anytime you can make his number one idiot fan
AmanDUH cry for the beating I gave him, it’s a good day. Second
would be vs. Zach Thompson. The match was this past June 26th, which
also happened to be my birthday. What's better than beating up a
ginger for your own birthday present? Third hasn't happened yet
– it's going to be Aug. 21st when I beat Devin Carter for
the 3XW Heavyweight title.
Midnight: Can you give 3XW fans some insight as
to what was going through your head after you took that terribly
nasty head-first spill after attempting to dive outside the ring
during your ladder match with Tyler Cook in July? Do you remember
much of the match after the dive?
Wyatt: I remember everything
that happened afterwards. When I hit my head I wasn't really sure
what happened. I've done that dive countless times. I remember lying
there feeling like my head was about to explode. I thought to myself
I can lay here, like 99 percent of people walking the face of the
earth would do, or I can get up and fight. I'm no pussy; I got up
to fight.
Midnight: Do you remember much of what was going
on backstage during the rest of the night?
Wyatt: Yeah, like I said
I remember everything afterwards. Mainly I was pissed off, pissed
off at myself for taking the risk with the dive when I didn't need
too. I don't need to take stupid risks to beat a guy like Tyler
Cook.
Midnight: I know you wisely sought out medical
attention. What did the doctors discover or have to say about your
condition? What was their reaction when you explained how your injuries
occurred?
Wyatt: I didn't want to
go but enough people badgered me into to going I figured it couldn't
hurt. I'm probably too tough for my own good sometimes but I decided
I didn't want to take any chances with my brain. I had a CT scan
taken, everything came back fine. They said I had a grade two concussion.
The doctor was surprised that I was doing as well as I was when
he saw me given how hard I hit my head. He told me I should take
at least a couple weeks off. Screw him – I wrestled the next
weekend for over 30 minutes. I'm a machine!
Midnight: You've received a bevy of fan support
on the 3XW message board due to your gutsy, if not crazy, performance
during that match, even in losing the Pure Wrestling title. Are
you happy to have the support of these fans? Do you have a message
for anyone jumping on the Jeremy Wyatt bandwagon?
Wyatt: Yeah... I do not
want nor do I need any "support." There's no room on this
bandwagon, it only has room for one – ME!!!! You know, I get
it, I understand why people started to cheer. I'm tougher than any
of them could ever imagine being and I'm so much better at what
I do than they could ever hope to be at what they do.
One more thing…I didn't lose. To say I lost is too imply Tyler
Cook beat me. I beat myself. I still find it funny that Tyler Cook
challenged me to a ladder match given I've had a stress fracture
in my foot since the end of May. In a one-on-one match, no gimmicks,
he can't beat me. In the whole scheme of things what did he prove?
That he can climb a ladder and fetch a belt? A dog can play fetch,
so I guess it's fitting.
Midnight: As we saw on Outside the Ring, you arranged
with 3XW Commissioner Todd Countryman for a shot at the Heavyweight
title regardless of the outcome of your ladder match. Despite you
being in cahoots with Countryman at times in recent months, it's
hard to argue that you're a deserving challenger. The question is
- do you believe you've had to wait too long for a Heavyweight title
shot?
Wyatt: It’s not "being
in cahoots" – it's called business. I've deserved a shot
for a long time. I single handedly made the Pure title relevant
and I knew [3XW President] Skylar Pierce wasn't going to give me
shot so I went to Todd Countryman. He knows it's better to be on
my good side than my bad, so he set the match up and got the contracts
signed.
Midnight: In regards to the current champion, "Delicious"
Devin Carter - what is your opinion of his wrestling style and how
do you think you'll match up style-wise? Based on what we've seen,
Carter's a brawler with a ton of heart whereas you employ a brutal
technical style with some high risk moves thrown in.
Wyatt: I respect him and
his abilities. You don't become 3XW Heavyweight champ multiple times
by sucking but....but, he's no Jeremy Wyatt. I'm the best wrestler
in the Midwest. While he chased the title for months and months,
I'll only need one try. He likes to brawl; you think if the steel
frame on the side of the ring and the concrete floor couldn't knock
me out, he can? I'm one of the very few guys who can adapt to any
style and not lose my aggressiveness. Why? Because I'm better than
everyone!
Midnight: Who would you like to fight in future
3XW bouts?
Wyatt: I don't really care
because beating up people in general is fun. But beating up Mike
Sydal again and making his goonbot fan cry a second time would be
nice. Choking Jimmy Rockwell with his own ponytail would bring a
smirk to my face. Thoughts of leaving my handprint across Zach Thompson’s
chest again make me a little giddy inside. Finishing what I started
with Tyler Cook and completely caving in his face would probably
even make me somewhat happy. Whether it's 3XW or elsewhere, things
aren't done between the two of us. To everyone else in 3XW who has
the misfortune of facing me....tisk tisk, you're in for a bad time!
