"The Rockstar" Jimmy
Rockwell- April 2010
3XWrestling.com caught up with
3XW Cruiserweight champion "The
Rockstar" Jimmy Rockwell, who is currently training hard in
preparation for his title shot against 3XW Heavyweight champion
"The
Rebel" Jeremy Wyatt on May 7th at 3XW "Over the Top"
at the Des Moines
Social Club.
3XWrestling.com:
How long have you been wrestling, who were you
trained by, and who are your top five biggest influences as related
to
pro wrestling?
Jimmy Rockwell:
I was trained by Brian Ash and have been wrestling for
three-and-a-half years. Some of my biggest influences are Ric Flair,
Brian Pillman, Chris Jericho, Bret Hart and, of course, I'm heavily
influenced by my trainer Brian.
3XW: Growing
up, and through high school/college, what skill sets
(classes, extracurricular activities, sports) can you attribute
to making yourself unique as a pro
wrestler?
Rockwell: I was always active in school. I spent
most of my time
playing baseball.
3XW: Fans can
notice a big difference in your physique from when you began in
3XW - what have you done to attain this "rock star" type
build?
Rockwell: A lot of hard work, diet and exercise.
3XW has a very
talented roster and a wrestler needs to be in great shape to compete
here.
3XW: You are
currently a two-time 3XW Cruiserweight Champion and the2009
3XW King of the Des Moines Tournament winner, but now you face your
biggest challenge yet as you face “The Rebel” Jeremy
Wyatt for
the 3XW Heavyweight championship on May 7th at "Over the Top."
First,
why did you involve yourself after the Jeremy Wyatt/Tyler Black
match at the end of 3XW "Spring
Showdown," and secondly, what are you doing
to prepare yourself for a wrestling technician like 3XW Heavyweight
champion Jeremy Wyatt?
Rockwell: I involved myself with the match to send
a message to Jeremy
Wyatt, saying that I won’t be intimidated like many of his
other
opponents. He also was attacking a helpless referee, who had already
been knocked out during the course of the match and I couldn't just
watch that happen.
Wyatt is known as ruthless technician with insane cardio and the
ability to finish a match out of nowhere.
To prepare for him I’mstudying a lot of video and working
harder on my cardio than I everhave. I'm also doing my best to stay
healthy because if he spots aweakness he can exploit it better than
almost anyone.
3XW: At "Spring
Showdown," we also saw 3XW Pure Wrestling champion
"The Viking Warrior" Kraig Keesaman viciously attack you
following
your Cruiserweight title defense over Sir Bradley Charles and Midnight
Guthrie's subsequent announcement that you are getting a Heavyweight
title shot at "Over the Top" on May 7th. Keesaman took
the mic and was
irate that you are receiving a shot before him, citing his 22-month
streak of not being pinned or submitted - your thoughts on the assault
and Keesaman's complaints?
Rockwell: The
last thing I expected at that moment was to get
attacked, and it's easy for Keesaman to attack anyone whose back
is
turned. While I honestly can understand some of his frustration
considering how impressive he's been in the ring, being a champion
is
about being a man, being respectful and clearly he's not carrying
himself like a real champion. Let's see if he's man enough to confront
me face-to-face and I welcome the challenge of facing him in the
future. Also, I'm sure he hasn't forgotten that 22 months ago, I
was
the last man that pinned him.
3XW: It is
known that you’re a big baseball fan. Which is your
favorite team and player.
Rockwell: I’m
a big Boston Red Sox fan and my favorite players are
guys like Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis - guys who will battle
every at bat and play hard every out.
3XW: What does the future hold for “The Rockstar”
Jimmy Rockwell?
Rockwell: Hopefully
the 3XW Heavyweight title is in my future. Besides
that I’m just going to take it one match at a time.
3XW: There
have been several developments in 3XW recently. What are
your thoughts on the following:
1. Your former
tag team partner, “The Laotian Sensation” Ricky Kwong’s,
recent attitude change and his manager Chad Mylan.
Rockwell: He’s getting results but I don’t
like the methods. I think
he needs to stop listening to Mylan and start listening to our fans
again.
2. The return
of Brian Ash, and his attack on Maddog McDowell,
followed by his joining of the Gentlemen’s Club.
Rockwell: I
was shocked when this happened. I was trained by Brian and
thought I knew him better than I obviously did. Brian Ash with the
Gentlemen’s Club in his corner
is a very dangerous person.
3. The Loser Leaves Town Match between the High
Flyers, “The
Unbreakable” Zach Thompson and 2009 Pro Wrestling Illustrated
"Rookie of the Year," Mike
Sydal.
Rockwell: No matter who wins this match 3XW and
its fans lose. These
are two of the top wrestlers in the Midwest and nobody wants to
see
one of them gone.
4. “The
Right Price” Aaron Masterson earning his first win over Hunter
Matthews in a Fatal Four Way match.
Rockwell: A
lot of the guys in the locker room were very happy to see
him pin Hunter Matthews. Aaron's been a fan favorite for a while
andit was good to see him finally get
a win.
3XW: Jimmy, thanks for taking time out of your
extremely tough
training schedule to answers these questions for 3XWrestling.com
and
good luck on May 7th against Jeremy Wyatt!
Rockwell: I
always like to give back to the fans, so I was happy to
answer these questions. I promise all the fans I will give my absolute
all to defeat Wyatt and win my first 3XW Heavyweight championship! |
