The History of Tyler Cook and Jeremy Wyatt's Rivalry in 3XWrestling There have been a number of heated rivalries throughout 3XWrestling history, but none have had the long-term intensity of the feud between Tyler Cook and 3XW Heavyweight champion "The Rebel" Jeremy Wyatt.
Here's a breakdown of the history of this rivalry, which dates back four years!:
April 22, 2006 - Retribution - "The Rebel" Jeremy Wyatt debuts in 3XW and shockingly pins Gage Octane. Wyatt begins an impressive winning streak from the outset, keeping an unblemished record clear until....
December 02, 2006 - Holiday Havoc - Wyatt suffers his first loss to early 3XW powerhouse Tony Scarpone during the first round of a 3XW Heavyweight title tournament. Tyler Cook makes his 3XW debut, also losing in the first round of the tournament to eventual finalist "Delicious" Devin Carter.
January 27, 2007 - A New Beginning - 3XW's first-ever Six Man Scramble match, featuring names who all still compete in 3XW: Hunter Matthews, Aaron Masterson, Shane Hollister, Kraig Keesaman, Tyler Cook and Jeremy Wyatt. Wyatt, looking to jump-start another winning streak in a big way, ends up being prevented by Cook from stopping Hunter Matthews from picking up the winning pin.
Both men leave 3XW after January 2007 to travel to other wrestling territories. They put aside their differences to form a very successful tag team that wins numerous championships throughout the Midwest.
January 18, 2008 - Inaugural Brawl - After earning tag team achievements elsewhere, Wyatt and Cook return as a team to 3XW, beating the Welfare Check Connection (Aaron Masterson and "The Unbreakable" Zach Thompson) in impressive fashion with their double-team "Kansas Tumbleweed" Lightning Spiral-superkick combination move.
- NOTE: Wyatt still uses the Lightning Spiral (a.k.a. Kansas Tumbleweed) as his top maneuver to this day.
February 15, 2008 - Tough Love - Wyatt and Cook defeat Matty "Fitness" Starr and Buck Albright with the Kansas Tumbleweed.
March 14, 2008 - High Octane - Wyatt and Cook defeat Aaron Masterson and "Canadian Sex Icon" Ryan Slade with the Kansas Tumbleweed.
April 18, 2008 - Hostile Takeover - Wyatt and Cook defeat 3XW Tag Team champion The Northstar Express by DQ in a Tag Team title match. Wyatt and Cook are now 4-0 as a team.
For the next few months, Wyatt and Cook are given the opportunity to showcase their individual abilities. Cook impresses fans with his fast-paced, high flying abilities against the likes of Zach Thompson and Supacito Kid and Wyatt wows fans with his hard-hitting technical skills against Ricky Kwong, Johnny Price, and A.J. Smooth.

August 15, 2008 - On a Stick! - After a summer of singles success, Wyatt and Cook battled in a Seven-Man Melee elimination match as part of the first round of the 3XW Pure wrestling title tournament. The stipulations of the match stated that the final twon competitors advanced to the second round. The end of the bout saw Wyatt nail Thompson with a Kansas Tumbleweed, only for Cook to quickly pin Wyatt with an Oklahoma Roll, allowing Cook and Thompson to advance. Wyatt was understandably upset with the situation, but as they say, "every man for himself."
Cook advance to the finals of the tournament, where he defeats Jimmy Rockwell to win his first 3XW Pure Wrestling title, beating his partner Wyatt to a championship in 3XW.
September 12, 2008 - Clobberpalooza Classic - Still undefeated as a tag team, Wyatt and Cook team up to challenge the Northstar Express again for the 3XW Tag Team titles. Darin Corbin injures his knee early in the bout, leaving Ryan Cruz to defend the titles by himself and giving Wyatt and Cook a two-on-one advantage. Just as it looks like they have Cruz beat, Wyatt shockingly attacks Cook and destroys him with a Kansas Tumbleweed, allowing Cruz to pin Cook to successfully defend the titles.
October 17, 2008 - Bam-O-Ween - Wyatt wins an excellent triple threat match over Maddog McDowell and "The Anarchist" Arik Cannon to become No. 1 contender for Cook's 3XW Pure Wrestling title. Cook successfully defends the Pure title over Shane Hollister in a MissouriWrestlingRevival.com "Midwest Best Series" match. Immediately following the match, Wyatt's music started playing. Cook put his belt down and stood pointed toward the entrance way in a defense stance. Wyatt, however, snuck out from underneath the opposite side of the ring and meleed Cook from behind with a forearm as the woman and children in the crowd screamed in terror. Wyatt preceded to give Cook one of the most brutal beatings we've ever seen in 3XW, including curb stomping Cook's face HARD into the Pure title. Five members of 3XW Security charged into the ring, only for Wyatt to beat the heck out of all of them and attack an unconscious Cook again. Shane Hollister, who's never been one of the nicer athlete's in 3XW, even attempted to jump into the ring to save Cook from the assault, only for Wyatt to kick him hard off the ring apron. Shortly after, it took every member of the security team to physically maneuver Wyatt out of the ring and to the locker room.
- NOTE: An interview I conducted with Wyatt after this event where he even attacked me can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIKHIpvPSuc
November 28, 2008 - Black Friday - Due to the injuries Cook suffered from this assault, he was unable to compete anywhere the next few months. Wyatt defeated Mike Sydal in brutal fashion at in November. Following the bout, Wyatt continued to assault Sydal and even attacked then 3XW President Skylar Pierce. As a result, Pierce stripped Wyatt of the No. 1 contendership.
- Despite never even wrestling one-on-one, 3XW fans vote Wyatt and Cook the 2008 "Feud of the Year" due to the intensity displayed by this still-growing rivalry.
February 27, 2009 - Mardi Gras Brawl - Wyatt wins a Six Man Scramble match where the winner gets a title shot of his choosing over Arik Cannon, Ryan Cruz, Ryan Slade, Donnie Peppercricket, and Ricky Kwong after pinning Kwong with a Kansas Tumbleweed. After the match, Wyatt continues beating Kwong until Cook runs in and saves Kwong from further injury. Wyatt announces that he'll take his shot at Cook's title on March 20th, provided Cook was still Pure Wrestling champion after his defense that night. Later in the evening, Cook indeed successfully defends the championship over "The Right Price" Aaron Masterson. Wyatt attacked Cook after the match and wild, locker-room clearing brawl ensued.
March 20, 2009 - Paint the Town Green! - Wyatt and Cook finally wrestle one-on-one in a great match. Wyatt pins Cook with an Oklahoma Roll - the same move Cook used to pin him in August 2008 on his way to winning the belt - to win the 3XW Pure Wrestling title. It's Wyatt's first title win in 3XW. After the match, Wyatt continues the assault, only for "Delicious" Devin Carter to run-in for the save.
Later that night, Wyatt interfered during Carter's shot at the Heavyweight title against Casanova. Tyler Cook ran in to save Carter from the two-on-one assault, leading President Pierce to announce that Carter and Cook would face Wyatt and Casanova in April, with Wyatt and Casanova losing their respective titles to whoever beat them for the fall.
April 17, 2009 - April Showers of POWER! - Cook teams with Carter and pins Wyatt with a rollup to regain the Pure Wrestling title. Wyatt immediately assaults Cook following the loss and delivers a vicious Kansas Tumbleweed right on the belt.
May 1, 2009 - Mayday Mayhem - Wyatt regains the Pure Wrestling title in a Fatal Four way match with Tyler Cook, Ryan Slade and Ricky Kwong. Wyatt didn't even directly defeat Cook to win the gold - Cook attempted to nail Wyatt with a superkick, only for Kwong to inadvertently get into harms way at the last moment. Wyatt quickly threw Cook out of the ring and delivered a Kansas Tumbleweed to Kwong for the pin.
May 15, 2009 - May Flowers of POWER! - Wyatt and Cook face each other in a six-man tag team attraction, featuring Wyatt teaming with The Gentlemen's Club (Mark Sterling and Gage Octane) and Cook teaming with Maddog McDowell and Jimmy Rockwell. This match can be seen in its entirety right here: http://www.3xwrestling.com/6manmayflowers.htm
Later in the evening, Cook eliminates Wyatt from the fourth annual Gauntlet for the Gold battle royal.
June 26, 2009 - Downtown Destruction - Cook defies the odds and defeats Ryan Slade and A.J. Smooth in a "Canadian Rules" match they unofficially became a handicap match. Wyatt once again attack Cook after the match. leading to another locker room clearing pull-apart brawl.
Later that night, Wyatt successfully defends the Pure Wrestling title over Zach Thompson in a great match. Cook rushed the ring following the match, and Wyatt immediately bailed from the ring. Cook took the microphone and challenged Wyatt to a ladder match in July!
July 17, 2009 - 4 Year Anniversary Event - In what is now considered one of the most memorable matches in 3XW history, Cook wins the Pure Wrestling title a record third time after climbing the ladder and retrieving the belt as an exhausted and concussed Wyatt vomits on the canvas while lying on the mat. In the early moments of this brutal battle, Wyatt fell head first out of the ring attempting to dive onto Cook on the outside, hitting his head on both the metal ring frame and the floor on the way down. This bout was voted by 3XW fans as the 2009 "Match of the Year."
August 21, 2009 - King of Des Moines - Wildly impressed by his performance the month before, the 3XW management gives Wyatt a Heavyweight title shot. Wyatt defeats "Delicious" Devin Carter to become 3XW Heavyweight champion for the first time. Cook, on the other hand, loses the Pure Wrestling title to Kraig Keesaman the same evening.
Late 2009 - Early 2010 - Cook loses a subsequent rematch with Kraig Keesaman for the Pure title at Halloween Horror 3 in October. Wyatt, who is still champion to this day, goes on an incredible run as a titleholder, successfully defending the Heavyweight gold against international star Al Snow, Ring of Honor World champion Tyler Black, Cruiserweight champion "The Rockstar" Jimmy Rockwell, taking a DQ loss against Maddog McDowell and surviving three incredible matches with national star Rory Fox.
- NOTE: Wyatt and Cook's rivalry is picked by 3XW fans as the "Feud of the Year" for the second year in a row. Wyatt is also selected as the 2009 3XW "Wrestler of the Year "and "Most Hated Wrestler of the Year"and his Kansas Tumbleweed is selected as "Finishing Move of the Year."
May 7, 2010 - Over the Top - Cook makes a surprise return in the 5th annual "Gauntlet for the Gold," getting some revenge and eliminating Pure Wrestling champion and heavy favorite Kraig Keesaman from the battle royal.
Given the long history between these two, it's easy to see why the 3XW Board of Directors are eager to match them up again on June 4th at Downtown Destruction II.
Perhaps the most important stat of all, however, is this: Dating back to January 2007, Cook is the only man to directly defeat Wyatt to win a match in 3XW - and he's done it three times!
Clearly Tyler Cook is more than worthy of challenging Wyatt for the Heavyweight championship - and Wyatt is dead set on finally avenging the ladder match loss that has been haunting him since July 17, 2009.
Other News and Notes:
- Can you believe after all the history written above that June 4th will be only the second time Wyatt has faced Cook in a traditional singles bout and only the third one-on-one encounter overall?
- To answer some questions about grammar rules, the proper spelling is 3XWrestling (with the initials capitalized) - not 3X Wrestling, 3XW Wrestling, or 3xwrestling. And definitely don't call it "3 Times Wrestling"!
- Remember...fans that purchase advance tickets to all 3XW events benefit in two ways - they save $3 on an adult general admission ticket ($12 in advance, $15 at the door) and advance ticket holders get to enter the arena to pick their seat 10 minutes before doors officially open. Advance tickets for Downtown Destruction II on June 4th are available right now by clicking the "Events" tab at http://www.3XWrestling.com and in Des Moines at both Cup O' Kryptonite on Fleur Drive and Jay's CD and Hobby on SE 14th St.
- Despite losing a very emotional "Loser Leaves 3XWrestling" match to his tag team partner "The Unbreakable" Zach Thompson, Mike Sydal refuses to be down in the dumps - in fact, Sydal recently re-located himself to continue his wrestling career! Sydal recently moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and wrestled Christopher Daniels last weekend in a match filmed for Ring of Honor's "ROH on HDNet" program. Check http://www.3XWrestling.com for more info about when Sydal's match is scheduled to air. He next competes on June 6th in Burlington, New Jersey for Pro Wrestling Respect, teaming with "Big, Bad" Bobby Dempsey to take on "Addicted to Love" Rhett Titus and Orange Cassidy, all regulars on ROH television.
- After watching May's "Over the Top" event on video, it is certainly a must-add to any fan's wrestling DVD collection. What an excellent event! Also currently available are "Spring Showdown" featuring Jeremy Wyatt vs. Tyler Black in one of the best matches I've seen anywhere this year, TV included, and we have a large selection of "The Best of the High Flyers" available for you Zach Thompson and Mike Sydal fans, featuring rare bonus footage.
- If you haven't seen the video of myself, Rory Fox and Hunter Matthews appearing at the Mid Iowa Rollers bout last Saturday, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QG7VnzwG0U
- Congrats to all the stars of 3XW that are scheduled to compete on the upcoming Metro Pro Wrestling TV tapings in Kansas City.
- Hungry? Thirsty? There's nothing better than a slice of Des Moines-area Godfather's Pizza or a cup of coffee from Cup O' Kryptonite on Fleur Drive! Besides - why wouldn't you want to support businesses that support 3XW?
- Speaking of that, be sure to join the stars of 3XW at Z's Bar (1511 South Union St. - just a mile south of the Des Moines Social Club) following Downtown Destruction II for the official after party. Mingle with all your favorite 3XW athletes!
- We also want to thank Mediacom and Blockbuster Video, two other great sponsors of 3XW.
Thanks for reading and we'll see you all at the Des Moines Social Club on June 4th for Downtown Destruction!
